About Margins of Intelligence

There is a distinction between the ability to achieve an end and the wisdom to choose one. As frontier technologies—from language models to biocomputing—narrow the margin between human and artificial intelligence, how we understand and navigate that distinction will, we believe, be more consequential than the actions of any company or government in the world.
It appears in many forms: capability and judgment, data and truth, the difference between what the world is and what it ought to be.
Margins of Intelligence is a research and writing initiative exploring how intelligent systems can be understood, evaluated, aligned, and controlled—so that humanity can expand the frontier of intelligence without flying too close to the sun.
